The Rolleiflex 3.5F is considered by many to be the best twin-lens camera ever produced.
It is fairly compact and light weight for a medium-format camera. The viewfinder framing actually adjusts for parallax error when focused (usually a problem when your taking lens is not the viewing lens).
Speeds go from 1-sec. To 1/500th, and B. The camera is equipped with a self-timer.
The taking lens is either a Schneider Xenar or Zeiss Planar 75mm f/3.5. This is a “normal lens” and great for all-around shooting. As this is a leaf-shutter camera there is no mirror vibration so it is easy to hold steady for slower speeds.
Some tout the Rolleiflex 2.8F as being superior due to having a taking lens that is a stop brighter. This is true, but many feel the 3.5 lens is actually sharper. With both models the viewfinder lens is a 2.8 so there is no advantage there. Also the 3.5F is a bit smaller and lighter.
The 3.5F has a built-in selenium light meter. We generally don’t pay much heed to whether they are working or not, as they are solar powered and were not meant to last 50+ years, and frankly weren’t that accurate anyway. If you have one that is working today it may not work tomorrow!
The Rolleiflex is a great system camera with lots of accessories you can buy including a panorama head, stereo 3d head, waterproof case, filters, etc. There is even a telephoto and wide angle lens attachment.
