Wisner Technical Field 8x10 w/Schneider 360mm f/6.8 Symmar-S GOOD
Beautiful mahogany and brass 8x10 camera!
The Wista is an American-made (Marion Mass.) camera with generous movements and a very long bellows extension. This has to be the most well-built 8x10 camera we've ever seen.
According to Camera-Wiki.org:
" Technical Field cameras offering, in addition to normal movements, a unique feature not found on any other folding field camera; a geared, on-axis tilt movement for the rear standard, with a non linear gear rack. This allows the camera to maintain focus position even when tilting the rear standard.[4] The rear standard also allows rear rise for composition adjustment, without affecting focus, even with tilt. The Technical Field was made in 4x5, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 and 20x24-inch sizes.".
This one is in very good condition. The brass shows some oxidation (see photos). The body does show minor scratches and signs of use.
The red bellows are supple and we could find no light leaks.
The lens is a Schneider 360mm f/6.8 Symmar-S. This is a razor-sharp lens with ample coverage mounted in a Copal 3 shutter.
The glass is very clean. There are some minor "Schneider-itus" white dots to the black paint where the glass is cemented to the lens barrel. This is super common with Schneider optics and has no detrimental effects. There is a Calumet rear-mounted wratten gelatine filter holder mounted to the lensboard. Speeds sound accurate.
The sale also includes a large Pelican roller case, a Peak Sucking lupe, deluxe cable release and a metal Kodak gelatin filter frame to fit in the Calumet holder.
