Rare French lens kit circa 1885. All items are in great shape for their age.
The lenses were manufactured by Balbreck. The kit consists of three lenses.
The first is a No. 2 Rectiliniaire Extra Rapide. This is a tiny lens; only 1.25" long. It has no shutter, but there is a adapter ring to roughly 2-1/2" opening toa lens board or shutter assembly (not included).
It features a rotating aperture disc. It comes with original front and rear caps.
The second lens is a No. 4 Rectiliniaire Extra Grand Angle. It also has an aperture disc built-in.
It comes with original caps.
The third lens is a Balbreck No. 8 Rectiliniaire Rapid Serie E. This one comes with a full set of waterhouse stops in a leather case.
Also included is a rare Besset shutter. This has it's own aperture wheel. amazingly, the shutter is in working condition!
There is a black brass spacer that can be swapped with the middle barrel ring of the No. 8 lens allowing it to be mounted to the shutter assembly.
The kit also has some other related items included another spacer ring that may let you mount another of the lenses (though I haven't figured it out!).
There is also a very ingenious brass external finder with two ground glass panels. This allows you to use it as both a waist-level or eye level finder vie a two-position built-in mirror.
There is also a nickel plated adjustable lupe/ground glass magnifier and a J. Decoudun Photometre exposure meter.
