This is an incredibly small lens for 4x5. It is a great "normal" lens. Though optimized for macro applications it is great for general landscape photos as well.
This one is in great shape; glass is clean, speeds sound accurate. Jamb ring is included.
Primary Purpose: Reproduction The lens was specifically designed and optimized for 1:1 reproduction (life-size magnification), with an effective range of linear magnifications from 5:1 to 1:5. Its flat-field design ensured sharpness across the entire image.
High Precision: Advertisements and brochures highlighted the meticulous German engineering and "incredible tolerances" in manufacturing, using advanced testing equipment to ensure maximum resolving power, flatness of field, brilliance, and contrast.
Versatility: A major selling point was its ability to be used for general photography and infinity focus by stopping down to f/22 or smaller. This made it a compact and lightweight option for large format field work (e.g., covering 4x5 and 5x7 formats at infinity).
Apochromatic Correction: The lens was promoted as having apochromatic correction, which minimizes chromatic aberrations for high-quality, color-accurate results.
Generous Coverage: While designed for 1:1, its image circle was notably large when stopped down, allowing coverage of up to 8x10 film at 1:1, and 5x7 at infinity, making it more versatile than standard plasmat designs.
