Yashicamat 124G GOOD

Very nice Yashica 124G medium-format camera. Speeds sound accurate, meter is working.

The self timer works with a two second delay; other than that everything works great.

The Yashicamat 124G is a simple, well-built medium-format Twin Lens Reflex camera.

It is often compared to the Rolleiflex TLR’s and is indeed a copy. The Yashica does have most of the features but is quite a bit less expensive, plus it has a battery fed light meter built in.

Shutter speeds are 1-second to 1/500th, and B.

As it has a leaf-style shutter you can synch a flash at any speed.

The camera is fairly light for a medium format. The camera weighs just over 2-1/2 lbs. It uses readily-available 120 film for 12 exposures per roll.

The camera has a folding waist-level finder. If you’ve never used one you are in for a treat. It’s like looking at a small video screen. When you look through an SLR finder you become part of what you are shooting. With a waist-level it’s like looking at a finished print and (IMHO) is a great aid in composition.
It’s also easy to be discreet when shooting street scenes.

The meter is simple to use. Set the ISO with a wheel on the top of the camera. The meter is viewed through a small window. There is a yellow needle with a round top and another red needle. Adjust your shutter speed and f/stop until the two cross over each other and that’s a correct exposure.

The optics are quite good. The taking lens is a Yashinon 80mm f/3.5. This is roughly equal to a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera.
